Position:          Production Manager

Reports To:    General Manager

Facility:           Huntsville, TX

 

Summary – Coordinates all aspects of facility production operations, growing and technical services, executing the production plan and delivering quality plants to the customer. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Ensure the proper production plan is in place and is executed

·         Work with the growing staff to ensure that the proper timings are in the plan

·         Manage the organization, storage and inventory process of all raw materials

·         Ensure proper receiving of all materials and seek credits or replacements for inferior quality

·         Develop minimum and maximum levels as well as re-order timelines for all materials

·         Ensure usage of recycled materials whenever possible

·         Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Manage the production and operations team

·         Execute the weekly production plan

·         Work with the team to manage labor hours to plan

·         Measure and monitor all production activities to determine production per hour

·         Ensure continuous improvement in all areas

·         Ensure optimal quality for the growing staff

·         Ensure that all equipment is running at optimal levels

·         Monitor soil mix and other cultural processes on a daily basis for proper balance

Work closely with technical services to achieve the following

·         Develop written crop protocols for all varieties including watering practices, temperature regulations, preventative spray program, growth regulation program, pest potentials, pinching requirements, fertilization requirements, optimal light levels, etc.

·         Walk the crops with the growing leads to identify weekly spray priorities not planned

·         Maintain written reports on what the needs are and why – report on execution weekly

·         Hold weekly training sessions with the growing staff to emphasize proper growing techniques – seek outside resources to assist in increasing growing expertise.

·         Ensure that all equipment is running at optimal levels

·         Ensure all chemicals are stored and used properly and team is adhering to all applicable laws

·         Perform regular lab tests, determine corrective action needed and share results.

·         Ensure compliance with all OSHA, state and federal regulations

·         Manage the purchase, usage and consumption of all chemicals and fertilizers

·         Report on dollars spent compared to plan and prior year

·         Ensure maintenance of facilities and all seeding, sticking, growing , spray, selection equipment

·         Maintain a written Preventative Maintenance program for all major structures and equipment

·         Work with the maintenance team and facility leaders to review weekly maintenance priorities

·         Manage all capital projects in the facility with the support of the Team Leads

Manage the growing process

·         Develop a lay down plan for all crops at the facility with the Team Leads

·         Ensure that a quality product is available at the correct time in accordance with the harvest plan

·         Measure actual harvest compared to plan and actual availability on a weekly basis

·         Ensure that the proper timings are in the plan for all crops in all seasons

·         Ensure an accurate on-time availability on a weekly basis

·         Manage all aspects of selection from growing to dock

Manage shrink

·         Report WTD, MTD, YTD

·         Report reasons for shrink and develop action plans to reduce

·         Ensure continuous improvement for all facility operations

Ensure timely reporting of all production data, expenses and financial information

·         Provide the proper GL code on all paperwork handed in

·         Obtain a purchase order for all raw material, finished good, and hard goods purchases

·         Hand in all paperwork the same day it is received

·         Recommend budgeted expense levels to the General Manager and financial staff

·         Assist in preparation of long range planning schedules

Work with Purchasing Manager to measure usage to plan for all raw materials

Responsible for physical inventory and will need to work with Purchasing Manager with counts

Perform any other work as directed by manager

Work closely with Office Manager to monitor labor to plan

Skills, Knowledge, experience:
• Minimum 5 years extensive experience in large scale, high-volume production of container Color product. Related degree or equivalent experience required.
• Strong growing and technical skills, proven track record of finishing high quality Color products.
• Strong logistics and planning skills.
• Must be able to interact with other Dept’s., Scheduling, Planning, and Sales Teams
• Must be a skilled problem solver and be able to work in an intense environment.
• Minimal budgeting and accounting knowledge.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Supervisory Responsibility:
Directly supervises Potting Team Lead, Growing Team Leads, and Technical Service Team Lead.

Must carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; holding regular meetings and complying with safety regulations; housekeeping; measuring and monitoring efficiencies; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
